Why I signed up for The CrossFit Open – Natasha Arora

What made you sign up?

I was really apprehensive about signing up, I didn’t want to come “last” and not be able to do it. But as I saw the names on the board grow, I felt more and more like maybe I should give it ago. Everyone was so encouraging of each other, it made me realise signing up was about the comradery and spirit rather than the leaderboard.

What did you enjoy the most about the Open?

We all had a common goal of taking part, having fun and supporting each other. It didn’t matter how many rounds/reps were done, it was just a great display of togetherness. The workouts weren’t the easiest of things but being able to head down to the pub afterwards to share our experiences of it was really nice to be a part of.

What did you learn from taking part in the Open?

I learnt not to be so conscience of my ability, no one is judging how bad you are and that was my biggest misconception. For me, it wasn’t a competition in the usual term, it was a place to step out of my comfort zone and test myself.

What is something you wish you knew sooner?

You don’t have to go into it being an amazing athlete or gymnast. You just need to show up and do what you can do, don’t put limitations on yourself.

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Probably not have given up as quickly as I did on some of the rounds and definitely persevere.. and I hope in the next one I can remember to apply myself some more!
